Nomads in Spain Tour to L’Alfas Del Pi Spain

October 12th – 17th Spain 2017

All the party less Bill Johnson,Linda Adams,Oliver Barnes and George Metclafe.

Tour party: Michael Blumberg, Ross Ormiston, Alan Ormiston Bill Johnson and Linda Adams, John Hardy, Jason Caunt and Sue, Kevin Smith, Simon Barter, Nigel Hussey, Jon Thornton, Nigel Green(Scorer),  Kyle Bradley,  Paul Wakefield, Oliver Barnes, Matt Jefferson and for one match George Metcalfe.

We stayed mostly at the Rober Palas Hotel, some upgraded and some downgraded!

This proved to be a most successful tour on and off the field and not without incident. In as much as we were mostly a mature squad not a lot was anticipated in terms of results. However in the event we won all four matches, dined and drank well and most importantly sleep deprivation did not seem to adversely effect the majority of players. We did have considerable depth in batting and almost everyone batted up and down the order over the four matches and without protest. We had three wicket keepers and all three kept and one did for the opposition. A little unexpected but most welcome was the success of one wicket keeper as a seam bowler. Debutant Jason Caunt performed with distinction, Paul Wakefield excelled with the bat as did Jon Thornton and Ross Ormiston. Bill Johnson hit the highest individual score 75* on Saturday, Ross also took four catches and his son two.
On Saturday Sporting Alfas were missing 3/4 major players however you can only play those present and we won. The Woodbridge Oval had been under water the weekend before with the result that the outfield was a magnificent lush green. Unfortunately this made boundary hits on the ground hard to achieve and resulted in a number of below par innings totals and rather exhausted batsmen. Simon Barter, a former regular tourist until 2009,  arrived on Friday and resumed his love affair with Benidorm. Matt Jefferson also a former tourist arrived late on Sunday so we lent him to the opposition on Monday. Simon introduced Kyle Bradley and Alan Ormiston to Benidorm but they survived the experience.  Young George Metcalfe who learned his cricket at Alfas but now lives in UK and played three times for Nomads this season played for us on Friday but for Alfas on Monday.
The cricketers were well supported by Nigel Green our electronic scorer and three ladies-Veronica, Sue and Linda together with Irina from the Yellow Submarine.
The tour was an excellent finale to the season. Well played Nomads.
