Some twenty one Nomads revellers enjoyed a very good evening at the Punjab yesterday evening. There were five 'no shows' but in the event we had two 'maybes' turn up and three 'unexpecteds'. So the final party was as follows.

Michael Blumberg, Charlton Lamb,  Keith Alexander, Jamie Lane,  Debbie Curtis , Russ Mann,  Andy Smith, Daryn Williams, Ranjit Latchman,  Andrew Weekes, Izzy Duncan, Saurabh Wahi,Joe Ireland, Bill Johnson, Kevin Smith & Christine, Oliver Croom-Johnson, Kamal Prabharkar, Kelvin Sutherland & Marte, David Morley-Clark.

In accordance with tradition when Nomads meet for dinner toasts were made in memory of Sydney Caulfield, 'Granny' Alston coupled with two recent Nomads who have moved on to another playing field sadly rather prematurely, Mike Willis and Richard Campion.

Current Nomad Divraj Rawat Manager was in attendance and taking photographs and after dinner former Nomad Lawrence Dringre now a chef came forth to greet us!

Photos to follow in due course.  Our next formal dinner is planned for 2013, our 110th year but if there is a groundswell of demand we may recommence earlier to get into practise.

There will be no 'organised' Curry West Christmastide this year which does not mean some of us won't meet in the Anapurna in December. Those keen on the latter should inform me nearer the time. However we do plan a Spring occassion in 2011 so watch this space.

Winter Well and we do hope the 'No Shows' re-emerge fighting fit and playing Nomads

We received apologies from four 'no shows' but none from the fifth who sadly could not. Nic Cooper instead of laying cricket squares undertook to do some tree pruning and fell from the tree onto his skull. He has been in a coma since. He is at Kings College Hospital. We all wish him a full recovery  and a hearty appetite for the next Punjab curry fest  Good News Nick is out of Coma and wondering how he missed the Punjab Curry Fest!

Founded in 1947 by Gurbachan Singh Maan, today his grandson Sital Singh Maan  owns the restaurant.Sital Maan prides himself on continuing the tradition his grandfather started – which is to provide authentic Punjabi home cooking in a relaxed setting within London’s Covent Garden.  Today, the Punjab is the oldest North Indian restaurant in the UK, serving generations of diners in the heart of London’s theatre land. Divraj Rawat is a Nomads member and a manager at the Punjab. He is assisted by Lawrence Dringre who has also played for Nomads with some distiction.

Located in Covent Garden, on the corner of Neal Street and Shaftesbury Avenue, the Punjab Restaurant currently occupies 80 and 82 Neal Street and the rear of 78 Neal Street.

The present street name (though without an 'e' ) commemorates Thomas Neale, the original developer of Seven Dials. Until 1877, the street was called King Street with the present numbering of the buildings assigned in 1908.
