A somewhat depleted Nomads XI took on the might of Geordie's XI and equitted themselves with some honour, albeit most of that being the opening partnership of Bell and Yorath in reply.

Our hosts were themselves one short so they lent us their youngsterÊ and we played 9 a side on a glorious afternoon. Nomads won the toss and put Geordie's side in whereupon some indifferent bowling saw the home side race away to a good start.
However NomadsÊstemmed the run flood led by teenage off spinner Dillon Basia and had almost bowled out the oppo' when the declaration came.

After an excellent tea 'Doc' Bell and Jim Yorath set about the bowling in fine style and were threatening to make a serious challenge when Doc sadly mishit a dreadful full toss and was caught. There after a collapse took place and only some resolute slogging by Simon Collins brought the Nomads innings to a respectable total well short of target.

What might have been a very unhonourable draw was foiled when the once ever reliable stonewall Hon Sec was well caught by second slip diving forward.

It was a shame that such a beautiful day and fine setting did not witness a better contest but late drop outs midweek are difficult to replace. Nevertheless it was a very enjoyableÊday out thanks to Geordie's hospitality and that of Hungerford CC.
