Headley Gallop to victory

Nomads won the toss and batted. The innings made slow initial progress against some tight bowling from Moore and McLeod(in his first spell). Indeed after 12 overs  only 25 runs had been scored.  The innings changed gear with two productive partnerships between Lightfoot and Ghersie and then Lightfoot and Smith. The three hit seven 6s and Nomads declared on 255 off 47 thus leaving 41 overs.

Hufton set  off at pace although losing his partner to Terry Hills,43-1 off 8 overs. Hufton then added with Martin a further 72 runs before being stumped off Blumberg,2-115 off 21 overs. Malcolm Moss joined Martin and these two raced away giving Headley victory with two overs to spare. They were particularly severe on Maloney,Volpe and Duggan who took off the pads to try and stem the flow and even the returning Watson could not halt the flood of runs.

Had Nomads known of the batting prowess of their two New Zealand debutants the order may have been slightly different and an even bigger total made in less overs. However whether the bowlers would done any better must be pure conjecture. With over 500 runs scored in an afternoon and several Jugs to consume Nomads lingered long quaffing the local Real Ale and famed Headley hot sausages
