Exciting draw on wet day
We had an exciting draw with Northwood in a game disrupted by several intervals for rain. Unfortunately Jemile Al-Darraji and Charlie Thurston failed to turn up and were not answering telephones-mobile and landline. David Hester from Trinidad stepped in making us ten. However as there were two Nomads who also wanted to play up to a day before this was doubly dissappointing!
Our largeky teenage top order failed but Nomads recovered from a poor start 48-5 to declare at 198-7 through good knocks from Kamal Prabharkar,Nic Cowley,David Hester and veteran Charlton Lamb..
Cowley took an early wicket and Satterthwaite deserved several as Northwood made slow progress in reply.Young Greg Hughes took the next wicket with his off spin,45-2. Hussey and Reeves consolidated the innings but at very slow pace barely scoring a run off Prabharkar. The skipper opened the game up with some flighted filfth which brought forth powerful shots from both Hussey and Stueart Reeve. When Young speedster Ed Tye replaced the skipper he was savaged by Reeves making a Northwood victory seem inevitable.
However the reintroduction of Satterthwaite and Prabharkar reduced the run rate and then three wickets fell for ten runs all to Prabharkar. A tense finish ensued with Northwood skipper Brockton and veteran Dickson stealing singles as Nomads desperately strove to restrict the runs. In the end Northwood required seven runs from the last over but Satterthwaite thwarted the batsmen who failed to make contact with the final swift bouncy three balls. So a draw was the result but it had the mass of spectators in front of the pavilion on tenterhooks!.
