Powell & Moore ensure Follies win despite Sajjad's magic and Brockers' ton

Nspan style="font-size: 10pt;">omads enjoyed another visit to Angelo Economou's ground at Follies Farm and once again forgot to win the match. Indeed this year's contest followed the pattern of last year's  with the exception that more runs were scored by both sides. That Nomads reached a decent total at all this time was almost entirely due to 'single barrel' Brockers who elected to occupy the crease and punish the bad ball when it came along. Brockers hit his fourth Nomads century of the season and was ninth out. Nomads innings was helped by a huge number of extras as the substitute Follies' wicket keeper failed to deal with the occassional low bounce and wide balls that were bowled fairly regularly. 'Doc' Bell played a dashing cameo at the start but to the chagrin of his two sons missed a straight one and was bowled. For the rest, including a solid looking mid order on paper, a mere 35 runs were amassed. Follies fielding was a mixture of some heroic stops and daft dropped catches. These heroics reduced two boundary four shots from the President to a mere two runs run! Quite unnecessary but arguably this may have won them the match.

After an excellent tea Nomads opening bowlers bowled well conceding a mere 36 runs off 16 overs.Quite how young Powell who had earlier bowled a mean brisk four over spell survived against Sajjad one can only marvel,Sajjad bowled a brilliant spell and deserved a fifer!. Unfortunately for us, survive  he did, and played some fine shots against increasingly indifferent bowling and perhaps dispirited fielding to post 92 before he was bowled by Peerless. Last year after a four wicket opening burst from James While Follies looked to be down and out in a low scoring game. Moore had other ideas and smote a not out 30 to win the match.Follies lost their 7th wicket at 177 to a terrific catch by the diminutive young Laurie Bell off Mackinnon. They thus needed 34 off  some 6 overs to win.  This time Moore   completed fifty off a ghastly penultimate over from Daryn Williams up the hill. Daryn after taking a wicket in his first spell had then bowled a series of tight overs so reasonably the skipper turned to him when with two overs left Follies needed 9 to win.Helped by some overthrows and a fumble  with 5 runs he smashed the fifth ball,a full toss, to win with 7 balls to spare, an unbroken 8th wicket stand of 35 from Moore and Mander. We had lost by 3 wickets, same as last year!

Another loss but an enjoyable match  which we should have won and so we drank with Angelo Economou for a good while afterwards.
