No drama as Nomads canter to comfortable win

With limited bowling resources Nomads skipper invited Gaieties to bat first. After a brief flurry Gaieties struggled against the seam of Brockton and Plant. Crowe fell to a Brockton slower ball and James Schneider was well caught by a sub fielder off Plant. From then on wickets fell steadily with the innings stumbling along. Plant bowled a very long spell of 19 overs, most of it very accurate and disceptive on a pitch bespeckled with bird shit. As the declaration became imminent  occasional bowler James Smith took two wickets with successive balls.

After a good tea Brockton and Peerless opened the Nomads innings and Peerless was soon bowled by Matthew Burton. What had seemed like a generous declaration began to look the opposite as the Nomads innings ground to a halt against Burton and Mackinnon. Lane was lbw to Gaieties skipper Hugo Thurston at 55-2 but from thereon in Plant and a revived Brockton scored ever more freely. Plant fell to Dutta and then Brockton rather carelessly to Mike Warburton with the target well in sight. Nathan Lamb hit the winning boundary with some four overs of the last twenty left.

Both teams were not as strong as in some previous contests yet it was a good  Nomads win which was celebrated for some length with Brian Philips afterwards at the NPL bar.
