Richard Stemp(Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Worcestershire,Yorkshire)  lost his dog and so did not turn up. Club President Michael Blumberg was scoring so he made up the numbers.This was a strong Nomads team nevertheless but faced with a young and fleet footed Hogs side whose fielding was outstanding and catching exemplary. Indeed eight Nomads were caught after Hogs won the toss and inserted Nomads.

 

Three catches in particular ensured Nomads posted a dissappointing total which proved on the day to be inadequate. Steve Dean had just reached fifty when Adair replaced Browne at the far end.Dean drove his first two balls for four. Adair then bowled a short ball  which Dean made room to leg before thumping it square for another four yet deep point took a brilliant catch and Dean was gone just as he seemed likely to take the bowling apart and lay the foundation of a big total.

 

After Shami Kamalia had committed suicide running himself out there was a mid order collapse but the innings seemed in serious restoration with Brockers and Woods  at the crease. Brockers having passed fifty looked to be en route for a major score when Olly Kelly bowled an awful full toss. Brockers advanced down the pitch and gave it a might thwack. All eyes looked to the boundary only to switch bach to the covers as Adair had taken an astonishing catch at shrt extra cover.Brockers stood frozen in a mixture of bewilderment and admiration. 

 

The last wicket was merrily taking Nomads to respectability when Sajjad swatted a rank Kelly long hop outside leg. He studiously aimed the shot to split the deep wicket fielder and his and cow corner team mate to probably the longest boundary on the day but he hit it high.  ran some distance and took the catch safely.

 

Hogs fielding had thwarted Nomads batting ambitions.

 

Nomads opened the bowling with Ben Walker and Sajjad Shawl. Both beat the bat regularly and Ben picked up two wickets but Hogs running between the wickets was swift and alert.  Rob Woods replaced Walker who in turn replaced Sajjad from the top end.Wood reguklarly bamboozled the batsmen and picked up two wickets .He deserved six.On several occassions Keith Alexander behind the stumps thought the batsmen was bowled and byes resulted.Did the stumps move?

 

Goodeve-Dockher survived and punished anything loose with gusto. At 136-4 the game was still evenly balanced. however depsite the difficulty the batsmen were having playing Woods the skipper persisted with seam at the other end despite the presence of two spinners,Andy Smith and Sajjad in spin mode. BrockersBen Walker's second spell did not match his first and Brockers proved ineffective. a third spell by Ben went haywire as his radar deserted him and several five wides and four byes resulted racing the Hogs total towards victory. Eventually Woods was replaced by Sajjad in spin mode who took two wickets including Goodeve-Dockher who had hit a  robust innings of ninety which had won the match.

 

Nomads scored 32 more runs from the bat but gave away 47 in extras,an extradinary figure given we had a class keeper. It is perhaps facile in retrospect to suggest that a different use of our bowling resources may have produced a different result but the reality remains that the Hogs fielding and running between the wickets was outstanding and won them the match.

 

Once again this was a great day out at Hog's magnificent ground and the hospitality was exemplary.A good number of Nomads were present when asked to drink up as the bar was closing.
