               Sajjad & Brockers ensure victory

Nomads won for the first time at the attractive Marlow Park ground thanks to another 'Brockers' ton and a mighty fifty from Sajjad as we chased down a total of 211.

We had some trouble raising eleven as for various reasons we lost Keith Alexander, Nathan Lamb and Andy Hill from the original line up and that's alot of batting.  In the end we made 10 on the day. Marlow promised us an American with an outstanding base ball throw but he changed his mind by the time we arrived then another player was promised who just had to pop home to get some 'whites'.  Obviously his family had other ideas so we fielded throughout with ten which was a difficuly with a short boundary one side and a huge one the other, plus we had three non running fielders!

The contrast between fielders worked to our advantage as numbers 1 and 3 were run out in rather comical circumstances. With Sajjad removing the other opener and Marlow's skipper falling to young wrist spinner Danny Miller the home side looked to be in trouble at 55-4.Even more so had young Danny caught Way on the boundary.

In the event it was Way and the equally burly Mumbra who restored the innings with a flurry of boundaries off Miller and Chaudhary. So much so that Sajjad had to be brought back early to restore order. This he did in some style bowling Way with the middle stump cartwheeling some way back. These two had added 80 runs. Simmo had replaced Chaudhary and was receiving a thumping from Mumbra when the batsmen was deceived or too ambitious and 'Simmo' took the catch off a leading edge,145-6. Nomads at this point were expecting an early tea but young Turner batted well and with the tail took the score to 211 all out by which time Suraj took two wickets and Brockers returned to bowl out number 10.

After an excellent tea Nomads innings had hardly started when James Smith was out for a duck. Suraj and Brockton added 30 whereupon Suraj slashed fiercely and was remarkably caught one handed  at backward point by Kim Barlow,38-2. Now Nomads batting line up was fragile, so much depended on the next stand.  Sajjad took the initiative and hit mightily before overhitting an intended chip over the bowler's head to be caught by long off. His swift 50 included four 6s, three of them way out of the ground,111-3. Miller and Lamb hit a few boundaries but both fell to straight long hops that kept lowish,154-5.

All the time Brockers had been compiling his innings at the other end and once past fifty was finding the boundary with increasing frequency. Danny Buckland kept him company striking a couple of boundaries himself but Brockers raced past his hundred to finish on 121 and victory with 6.3 overs to go.

With IPA from the Marlow Brewery on tap and a beautiful summer's evening to enjoy Nomads were to linger long before driving home after a great's day's out thanks to our hospitable opponents.

One who did not linger however was Suraj.   A delayed flight found him arriving at Heathrow at 5.30am and home some hours later yet he arrived in time for the start, just! That sort of trooper is what Nomads cricket is all about.
