Nomads seated by the pavilion
Stowe Templars thwart Johnno Gordon's ambition
After a brief bright start a strong Nomads batting line up rather underperformed at Stowe this year. That we reached an total at all was very much due to a late partnership of over fifty runs between Bill Johnson and guest Arnold. Templar Angus Blayney finished with figures of 5-23 off 8 overs.
For a good while Nomads seemed to be in the game with the scent of victory in their nostrils as Johnno Gordon put in a herculean performance of seam bowling.Templars were 13-3 and 102-6. The skipper opted to persist with Johnno after tea and replace Bill Johnson with Brockers'seamers. In retrospect probably an error as Andy Smith off spin may have been the better option. Although 121-7 when Brockers bowled Templars number 8,Templars' Dudley and Scott not without blemish put on 60 runs to win the match with the somewhat mature Nomads fielders wilting under pressure in contrast to some good catching early in the innings.
Johnno finished with 6-83 off 19 overs but will long be remembered for his dropped catch at mid wicket the product of his busy conversation with the Templars watching in front of the pavilion!
Nomads & Templars lingered long at the Queens Head in Chackmore afterwards. The hospitality at Stowe being exemplary as usual.
