 Thrashed by Selsey

We had eleven at Arundel the day before and again the day after so it was irritating to play with 9 fielders and bat with just nine. Clarke and Wilkins removed the openers cheaply and the innings stalled for some time reaching 18 off 14 overs. The introduction of Charles Penn brought forth some shots, three 4s and then a wicket. Selsey were now 51-3 off 20 overs. Wilkins took himself off 10-5-14-1.Robin Symondson and Ian Crombie took a wicket each as the score advancd to 115-5.  Mitchell  had dug in and eventually found a useful partner in Harding and these two added a further 34 runs before the innings closed. Mitchell completed an unbeaten fifty

After an excellent Tea Nomads were confident of chasing down this modest total but in a flash had lost three wickets. Penn and Symondson briefly looked as if  a big stand was forthcoming but then Penn fell for 18 caught in the deep. Skipper Wilkins went for a duck so all depended on the last three supporting Symondson. Alex Stewart hung around but then Symondson went for 31,'Ratty' Abramson was run out and Tony Clarke after hitting two 4s was out caught. So Nomads all out 86 after a mere 26 overs without having to face the renowned aerial filth and guile of BBC Astronomer Dr Patrick Moore.

Selsey were very hospitable and we stayed very late.
