Nomads chase fizzles out
On a bitterly cold day Nomads commenced the new season and the skipper lost the Toss. East Horsley's openers made an impressive start and the home side threatened to post a massive score. Paul Maloney changed that by removing both openers and taking two more to finish with 4-36 off 11 overs. Paul's wickets and one each for Blumberg and Mann helped stem the flow so much so that East Horsely declared after 45 overs giving Nomads the same to chase. The players were glad to retreat to the Pavilion for tea and a hot cuppa.
Nomads made a decent effort to chase with Tony Whiteway top scoring with 69. John Dunley maintained the challenge but the cheap dismissals of Smith and Hills effectively ended Nomads hopes. John Dunley(47) was finally stumped on 180 and then despite the loss of Pearce, John White and Michael Blumberg batted out the draw. East Horsley's Gilbert-Smith finished with a fifer for a mere 23 runs. So with at least four individual jugs to be bought there was some good cheer at the bar post match. June 28, 2020 1:04 pm
