Nomads batting fails the challenge
The Major’s top order failed but the lower middle order rallied to give sufficient momentum to reach a modest 136. the wickets were shard between Trip (4), Grossman, Blunt and Moss.
Nomads reply started well enough with opener JM Moss top scoring with 33. However only Crook and Pegrum reached double figures, eight batsmen making together only 18 including two ducks. Nomads finished 21 runs short.
The Cricketer Magazine says ths match was played at Hackbridge Grange. The Grange at Hackbridge built around 1880 by Alfred Hutchison Smee with extensive gardens and presumably including a cricket ground.. It was acquired by the Council in 1935. the house was burned down in 1960 and the grounds are now a public park.
