Scowen Superb at Indian Gymnkhana
At a Plumbly Lunch at the RAF club in Piccadilly Steve Scowen informed three Nomads-Michael Blumberg,Ranjit Latchman and Tony Whiteway) that he had once taken two hat tricks in the same match against a strong Indian Gymkhana side. Tony Whiteway replied that he remembered him bowling very well in such a match. So Michael Blumberg searched through the scorebooks and found the match. The scorebook in question was not in the best condition. As a result it is certainly possible to confirm one hat trick and that Scowen took three wickets in another over.
Steve Scowen was a superb fast medium bowler and his 7-14 against a strong Indian Gymkhana side in that era was a brilliant spell of bowling.
There were three Ugandan Cricket Internationals in this Nomads XI who also played for East Africa, Sam Walusimbi, John Nagenda and David Galooba. Several of the Gymnkhana side were Asians from Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
