Club Captain: Russell Mann

In late September 1998 a meeting was held between representatives of Nomads, Virgin XI, Hottentots and Old Ardinians with the purpose of establishing close liaison in future so as to achieve eleven players on the day. All four clubs had struggled in 1998 to raise eleven regularly. A festival at Ardingly College was agreed but never took place. Subsequently Jeremy Lascelles (Virgin XI) and Michael Blumberg (Nomads) proposed to merge the two clubs. this proposal was put to the Virgin XI AGM and was rejected overwhelmingly. Nevertheless the proposal was put into effect with both clubs fixtures being published on the same Fixture Card. The next year one list was published with Virgin XI matches being managed by Jeremy Lascelles and Jamie Lane. In fact the merger added pressure on availability for some years as there was duplication with two strong fixtures on the same day but it worked well. Jeremy continued to call his diminishing number matches including the Thoiry tour Virgin XI games until 2010.
