Cricket World XI in Portugal
Cricket World XI stayed at the Barrington’s Club in Val de Lobo Algarve and played several matches. At that time Cricket in the Algarve was vibrant and seemed to have a sound future. The club was used by England, First Class Counties and a growing number of UK and Northern European cricket clubs as well as by cricket clubs from Lisbon and Oporto. A local club was founded and properly constituted and registered.
However the Barrington’s Club found the facility could make much more money from Football clubs from Germany and elsewhere than was the case with TCCB, Counties and Cricket Clubs. so the synthetic cricket pitch was dug up and football triumphed.
