2024
The 2024 season kicked off with three Continental Tours March & April, Sporting Alfas in Albir, onto Rome and Capannelle and so to Menorca. The season finished with two matches at Barnes Common followed by three at Sporting Alfas and a final trio on Ibiza.
Although the final record looks good this was a season of much foul weather and indifferent availability. Remarkably we had 200 players turn out for us . Eight centuries were scored and also eight five or more wicket hauls taken. This was first season since the early 1970s that the President did not play for Nomads due to a Right Achilles injury. Congratulations to several Nomads who were selected to play in the Over 70s World Cup with the final at Wormsley. Andy Peters and Michael Stafford for England, Keith Alexander for India, Sunny Fernando for Sri Lanaka and Stan Woolliscroft for New Zealand. Sadly we lost three Nomads stalwarts, two of yesteryear and one very much contemporary. Kim Owen -Browne died aged 86 in February . He was a very fine swift bowler playing throughouts the 1970s. Overlapping with Kim and into the 1980s was the very tall Dr Mike Wilkins was also an outstanding quick bowler and one time skipper of Nomads. He died aged 78 . Lastly Kevin Smith died in October aged 70.an excellent keeper in his seniority he was also one of the great entertainers, on and off the field. 2024 Cancelled 27 Played 57 Won 30 Drawn 12 Lost 15 Indoor nets at Lord’s start February 14th 7-9 pm Post Season Curryfest at Punjab November 27th Pre-Christmas Dinner at the Fatt Punditt December 19th The final event of Nomads 2024 was a select gathering a the Fatt Pundit restaurant December19th.
