Nomads prevail in close encounter Nomads won the toss and batted first. Then lost Stuart Reeve early to a careless shot and Sanjay Beri after a characteristic cameo, so 64-2.
Matt Ogden took command with an unbeaten century ably supported by two Marshall brothers. The innings was declared at 279-4 off 45 overs thus leaving our hosts 51 overs in reply.
After the interval Oxford Downs responded boldly reaching 125-1 off 25 overs whereupon the Downs innings went into serious decline as six wickets fell for 42 added, Owen Marshall taking 4 wickets.
Downs Skipper Sandbach and young Selby-Lownds launched a recovery adding 83 runs in 13 overs before Tom Marshall bowled Selby-Lownds for 31. Downs needed 19 to win off 23 balls. Sandbach completed his fifty but failed to keep the strike so both Foster and Davie fell to Matt Ogden at 270. Nomads had won by 9 runs. Phew!
Nomads feasted on Fish and Chips sourced locally to complement the ale consumed on a fine summer’s evening.
An excellent day’s cricket, so many thanks to Oxford Downs.
