Nomads hang on to draw

Nomads were skippered by Chetan Malhotra for the first time and the debutant almost did a ‘Crombie’ on a fine summer’s day.

Hambledon won the toss and batted first. Sidhu and Hamilton soon removed the top order,28-4.So Chetan removed Sidhu in case he would run through the home side. Likewise he removed Ahmed Elech after seven overs as neither batsmen could score off him. this allowed mature Mann and youngster Moger to rebuild the innings with a substantial stand before Mann retired. Matt Durrant in rare bowling mode then removed Moger for 74 and the rest of the innings folded bringing the declaration in the 42nd over,173-8.

When Nomads replied Ahmad Elech played another loose shot and was caught for a mere 3 runs. Not what was wanted. Josh Sivier and Chetan Malhotra looked well set but both fell in their twenties. Then Hambledon skipper Mark Le-Clerque destroyed the middle order with his flighted filth. Raj Mehir hit his wicket, While ran himself out and Keith Juriansz whacked his first ball to the square leg boundary where it was caught chest high by the fielder. Total disgrace was averted by young James Hamilton and Aussie Jack Barrington who batted out the remaining overs for a draw.

Not Nomads finest hour but in tune with many collapses to Le-Clerque over the previous years.

Nomads enjoyed a pint or two with the opposition before repairing to the Bat and Ball inn where they lingered further over dinner, ale and wine. A toast was drunk in memory of Ian Crombie before making the long drive back home.
