Nomads too strong for SOA this time
The sequence of draws was broken this year by a decidedly competent Nomads side. Nomads won the toss and elected to bat. Despite the early loss of Victor Kandampully and Finn Bryan a fine well crafted third wicket stand between Ahmed Elech and Rashid Mullahzada of 144 laid the basis for a decent total. However once Rashid had gone at 168-4, Ross Ormiston and Andy Rouse followed quickly.Tom Marshall helped Ahmed to his century with a stand of 17 but 200-6 then quickly became 219-8 as Arora and Brockton succumbed cheaply. An unbeaten eighth wicket stand of 29 between Marshall and Hamilton took the score to 248 off 53 overs before the declaration.
SOA started boldly with a flurry of boundaries but then both openers fell to Tom Marshall, 59-2. The rest of the SOA batsmen failed to get going against the guile of ‘Chinaman’ bowler Ash Arora (4 wickets) and the beguiling right arm very slows of Professor Grumpy Chris Page(3wkts). This left stranded the not out Johnson-Coleman on 28 who gave the total a little respectability,138 off 33.3 overs. Nomads did not require Stanmore’s opening bowlers but then they had already had a good match with 182 runs between them.
Tiddington’s hospitality was outstanding as usual, a very enjoyable day indeed.
