Tom Balkwill ton sees Nomads home
Ducks for both Buxton openers put Nomads in front from the start of this match as the opening seamers Hamilton and Brown found the green pitch very helpful.Smith and Bartholomew dug in and seemed to have restored the innings when the magical curmudgeon Pagie tossed up two indifferent deliveries only for Calum Brown and Owen Marshall to take remarkable catches. The skipper Griffin hit some lusty blows but the innings succumbed to Joe Ireland and areturning Hamilton for a modest 157.
In reply Wakers struggled against his former club who had kept him out for a late one the evening before. Buxton's opening bowlers were also encouraged by the pitch and removed Wakers eventually for an obdurate 4. There was a loud shout for a catch behind as Balkwill raised arms leaving one that seamed back but he survived. Tom and Owen feasted on the Buxton back up bowlers so much so that Nomads won in 25 overs and Australian Tom had made a ton for Nomads on debut.
Despite the pitch this was a fine setting at Queens College ground and there was much happening on the river Isis beside the ground as the College crowds cheered their competing oarsmen.
