Thrashed on a lovely day

Nomads had a decent batting line up and so decided to bat first. Sanjay Beri swung merrily as his wont and notced a swift fifty as a result. Thereafter the innings slowed down with Victor Kandampully in uncharacteristic sluggish mode. The run out of Ahmad Elech on 37 was most unfortunate as he had the skill and firepower to take us to a challenging total. In the event the rest of the innings subsided meekly including mighty hitter Huzefa Sajawal. Nomads all out 212 in the 42nd over was clearly not enough. Some inspired bowling was required.

After the interval the Martlets’ openers savaged young James Hamilton and in this form dealt mercilessly with the rest of the Nomads bowling. Even the skill and experience of Ahmad Elech was to no avail. He went for 30 runs in three overs.

So Martlets won by 10 wickets in the 28th over with both batsmen scoring centuries, a chastening defeat for Nomads. The game was played at Horsham CC, a most agreeable setting and the club had taken some trouble to erect a tea serving adjunct to the Pavilion as well as maintaining an open bar all afternoon and evening. It was a glorious day weather wise but not one for Nomads to remember.
