Big Bank Holiday win

The Nomads made their annual late summer Bank Holiday trip to Oxted & Limpsfield’s pretty ground in the shadow of the North Downs and came away with a hard fought yet convincing victory.

It was agreed that the visitors ought to bat first, and openers Vic Kandampully and Simon D’Ardenne gave the Nomads a platform against some tight initial bowling. Once Kandampully was dismissed, Beckenham’s Jason Bilimoria immediately increased the scoring rate against the change bowlers and was ably supported by first D’Ardenne and later Zef Sajawal. Some late striking from the lower middle order boosted the Nomads’ total to 266 before captain Ben Butcher called a close to the innings.

The opening spells from Messrs Mills and Hamilton were hostile, and both deserved a wicket, but it was old stager Chris Page who made the breakthrough, trapping Hanrott LBW. Two more quick wickets followed, but there was then a substantial partnership between the ever-obdurate Mike “Mirrors” Adamson and the youngster Bennett. It took the reintroduction of Mills’ extra pace to knock over “Mirrors”, and from that point on wickets fell regularly. It was not until the penultimate over of the last 20, however, that victory by a large margin of 130 runs was secured through a good catch from Hamilton on the leg side.

The hosts kindly donated a bottle of wine to Man-of-the-Match Bilimoria, and once the evening chill had made al-fresco drinking a little less pleasant, a few select Nomads repaired to a curry house to take advantage of the final day of “Rishi’s dishes”.
