Unfortunate Mismatch sees Nomads win by 135 runs A Brockton and Kandampully had filled their boots with a bucketful of runs against a poor bowling attack. Brockton duly reached his hundred and retired, the fortunate recipient of being caught off a no-ball when in the 90’s. Then young Harry Gardner of Beddington CC was dismissed immediately, chipping tamely to mid-wicket. Pawan Malik and Joe Purnell got the Nomads to the sanctity of 245-4 (despite Malik being dismissed late in piece via an under edge). Nomads would bowl in the region of 47 overs back at the home side.
Leigh Brockton had made a cricket hamper for several of the Nomads, washed down with some of Nick Stevenson’s delicious but dangerous Syrian red (Pagey admonished for not bringing his usual bottle of “Cabinet”)
After the tasty tea, Nomads took the field in good spirits, James Hamilton roaring in from the pavilion end dismissing “Mirrors” Adamson the Oxted skipper, palpably LBW and then yorking the no3, who announced it was his birthday upon taking guard.
Butcher was also quickly into his stride, taking two wickets (one LBW, cheerfully given by Nick Stevenson, now into the 40s with regards to LBWs this season!).
The home side’s batting line up was in tatters, and the introduction of curmudgeon Chris Page did nothing to lift their mood as he took 4 wickets, despite Joe Purnell dropping a regulation catch at long-on. Ross Ormiston seen chuckling at first slip provided much mirth to the Nomads !
Harry Gardner took a smart diving catch at mid-off and young Rory Edwards bowled a tidy little spell from the pavilion end, replacing James Hamilton.
Fittingly Page ended the game with plenty of overs to spare, Pawan Malik taking a drive above his head at short cover and Oxted & Limpsfield were bundled out around half way to their target of 245.
Fortunately the bar had now opened, so the Nomads repaired to sample some of the local brews on offer (and to get out of the now rather chilly early evening weather).
Our thanks to Nick & Nigel for officiating on the field and Nomads President Michael Blumberg for being the scorer for the day.
