Another Batting Failure
On a fine afternoon Nomads won the toss and elected to bat.The club skipper was unavailable and there were several new faces in the side. In the event only Whiteway made a score and he was unfortunately run out for 40. The innings did reach 100-4 but then collapsed, 6 wickets falling for a mere 14 runs after 52 overs batting.
In reply Nomads had some initial success as Hussein removed Bowen for 14 and Pitt had numbers three and four out for ducks in the same over,23-3. Blumberg may have been successful with a couple of lbw shouts if he had not obscured the umpire Bert King’ view! Nomads bowled tidily enough but with such a low target Chenies were in no hurry.Clarke at number 5 dug in and he and opener Darbyshire put on 77 before he was run out. Unlike the Nomads innings there was no collapse and number 6 Brown and Bowen reached their goal in the 37th over with 14 balls to spare. On reflection the re-introduction of the wicket taking seamers may have averted defeat.
