Northwood did well to recover from 92-7 to reach 172 against a formidable Nomads bowling attack. Nomads seemed to be coasting to a comfortable victory after an opening stand of 82 and Tony Whiteway fell on 87 with the score 138-4. The required 35 runs appeared to be but a formality as 15 overs remained. However a sequence of maidens from Bill Jones and Penroy Latchman took all momentum from the Nomads innings as Neil Thompson crept towards the target. then with seven overs to go Latchman removed Scowan and next over Jones had Thompson caught. Four overs and 18 to get. Mike Wilkins and Tim Grant played out two maidens then Wilkins took a single off the 18th and 19th over leaving 16 runs to hit off the last over. Wilkins hit Latchman's first ball for two runs and then the next for six, the only six of the match. Four more balls and eight runs to get! Matches,Scorecards & Reports 1979
Alas! Latchman bowled a dot ball and then bowled Wilkins. Remarkably Tony Smiley survived the last two balls to draw the match.
