Beckenham win with overs to spare
Hassan Khokhar, Nomads skipper of the day, won the toss and elected to bat on yet another sunny morning. The Nomads innings was dominated by another fine century from Aayush Baluja, his second in a row for Nomads, and an unbeaten fifty from James Hamilton. There were three short innings in the top six and two cameos.(28 & 29) from MK Mahi and Vic Kandampully. The innings was declared o 249-7 off 45 leaving Beckenham with a potential 47 overs in reply. In the event a trifle generous given Nomads bowling attack.
Hassan Khokhar when he selected the side thought he had two decent regular opening bowlers. Unfortunately both were inoperative due to knee injuries. Joe Ridley injured his while batting and James opted to wicket keep instead. As a result Mahi and Burgess opened the bowling and started well with a maiden a piece before suffering some punishment. Olly removed the aggressive Pillar,1-42. Then both Hassan and Baz started well taking out numbers 1 & 3, 3-94 off 19 overs. Hassan changed ends and opted to invite the Beckenham middle order to get themselves out. This was successful to a point as Hassan removed two more Beckenham batters ,4-147 off 27 overs via two very good catches by Aayush.. However Thomas and Roberts then added 97 at a good rate despite the introduction of bowling enigma Joshi and leg spinning Aayush. With several statues in the field it was difficult indeed to stop the flow of runs. Eventually Hassan reintroduced the opening seamers and Mahi trapped Roberts lbw, but by then it was too late and Beckenham won by 4 wickets with some five overs to spare.
Post match a good number of Nomads and Beckenham socialised in the evening sunshine for some hours. Nomads were pleased to see veteran Nomad Dr David MacVicar and Former Beckenham & Stoics stalwart Bill Sumner. A good days cricket at a fine club although this result broke a sequence of four Nomads victories.!
