John Nagenda (1938- 2023)

John Nagenda 1938-2023 Vice President of Nomads CC, legendary cricketer who played for East Africa in the 1976 World Cup died March 2nd More & More. A Memorial Match was played on August 20th at Ascott House Wing between Nomads CC and Stoics CCs at which his son Frank and others spoke eloquently of John.

John played for many Wandering Clubs in UK in particular Stoics CC but he retained a life long affection for Nomads CC for whom he first played in the late 1960s. He was a fast medium bowler whose record for Nomads was impressive as was his stamina for he frequently bowled at one end throughout an innings as at St John’s Leatherhead in 1981

John was one of the great characters of Club Cricket who enhanced the post match experience at the bar.
John was a writer primarily an essayist though he did complete some books. On his return to Uganda he became Presidential advisor on Media and Culture and wrote a regular column in a local newspaper, Monitor.
