Bowlers Dominate and Nomads win

The Nomads arrived at Stowe School this year on a pleasant summer’s day. The setting was glorious and the wicket firm. Skipper Marshall won the toss and the Nomads batted first. Kandampully and Elech opened up, with Vic batting with Fluency for 41 before being trapped in front. Ahmed batted with less fluency but battled his way to 50 against some good bowling before being stumped. Mike Blake was unfortunate to be bowled by a good ball. He was even more unfortunate for the electric scoreboard to freeze showing “BLAKE 0 – Bowled Curley” for the next hour. Blakey, on noticing the technological problem was heard saying “It wouldn’t have freezed if I’d had scored 150” – safe to say that Pagey enjoyed seeing it. Brockton and Rashid then pushed the Nomads on throughout the innings with a very useful 38 and 37* respectively. Brockton batted well and had learnt from past mistakes at Tiddington by laying off the vino until after he had batted. Jason Caunt added 5 before being bowled. Marshall then added 19* to help the Nomads to 213-5 off 52 overs before walking off in declaration.

Lunch was delicious, with two helpings of lasagne, and strawberries and cream available to all including spectators. Pagey also dipped into a bottle of his own cabinet. On behalf of the Nomads I would like to thank and praise the catering staff for putting on such a splendid spread for us.

The Nomads had half an hour of bowling before tea. Jason Caunt bowled beautifully, nicking off two batters in the process. He was backed up by Ickenham CC’s Neerav Trivedi at the other end who also bowled very nicely without reward. After tea, Butcher and Page bowled in tandem and picked up 6 wickets between them. Butcher bowled well, with consistency. Page bowled fearlessly…seriously. Chris Stride was also used for 4 overs and picked up a useful caught and bowled for the 8th wicket. The Templars looked to have left themselves too much to do at 116-8, but with a batsman in and starting to tee off, 213 looked ever closer as we entered the final ten overs. Rashid was told to get warm as skipper Marshall brought himself on in search of the final wicket. The batter who was in tried to tuck into his medium pace, only to chip the ball to Kandampully at mid-off, gifting the Nomads a win by 44 runs.

Thank you to all who played, especially to those who stepped in at a late stage. I hope to see you all next year.
