Nomads win in Ibiza, but not vs Ibiza CC
Nomads won a thoroughly enjoyable contest at the pretty setting of Ibiza CC on Saturday vs Spanish touring side LaManga Torrevieja. In late October sunshine the Nomads pair of Olufawo and Brockton strode to the crease and promptly put on 51 in 9 overs vs some accurate bowling from Spain international (& captain) Adam Alger as well as experienced stager and jovial scouser Jake Harvey. Olufawo dragged on a low full toss for a well crafted 27 & Brockton then clattered a long hop to cover for 45 to leave Nomads 79-2 from 14 overs & when Mark Richards departed for 9 Nomads were looking in a spot of bother with something of a long tail. Enter the returning Kie Farrell playing in just his 2nd game in 3 seasons due to a self imposed cricketing “exodus”. His return was most welcome on and off the field and together with Ibiza resident Rupert Style began to rebuild the innings. Both starting cautiously (Style’s first 30 were all in singles) the pair flourished vs the LaManga Torrrevieja change bowlers adding a 138 run partnership. Style was out for 45, Trevedi soon followed as well as Kyle Bradley for a golden globe, but Farrell reached his century in the final over ending with exactly 100 not out and Nomads to 267 in their allotted 40 overs. The Spanish visitors would have to score at over 6.5 an over to sink the Nomads. A pleasant tea followed, washed down with a cold beverage or two as LaManga Torrrevieja started their innings. Despite losing opener Scott (bowled in the first over by Chris Readhead), Adam, Wood & Alger batted with purpose, and Alger to a very well crafted 50 as LaManga Torrrevieja reached 117-2 in 23 overs. However, once Alger was dismissed they collapsed like the proverbial pack of cards losing 6 wickets for under 100 runs. Jonathan Dudding bowled with control, although wicketless but the pick of the bowlers were off-spinner Vish Trivedi (4-25) and part time seamer Mark Richards (2-21) who wreaked havoc in the middle overs. Trivedi with his flat “darts” was accuracy personified & was a whisker away from taking a hat trick. Wayne Edmonson went for 58 from 7 overs, but no matter LaManga Torrrevieja ended on 214-8 & Nomads winners by a comfortable 53 runs. Interested spectators included the “WAGS” Susie Morris, Leigh Brockton, Kirsty Readhead & Pam Edmonson Our thanks to Mark Williams (Nomads) and Peter Partridge (Ibiza) for officiating and Nomads supremo Michael Blumberg for scoring during the contest. Tomorrow afternoon Nomads do actually play Ibiza CC, albeit in a 20 over contest with LaManga Torrrevieja playing the morning match also vs the hosts

Nomads end the season on a high with a win vs Ibiza CC
Nomads were hosted by Ibiza CC in the final game of the 2023 season which was a 20 over affair on a glorious late October afternoon. Nomads posted 182-5 with John Olufawo top-scoring with a sublime 73 after the early loss of Mark Richards (LBW) and Hugo Morris (run out in comical circumstances as he pulled his groin). Adam Alger (Spain international) scored a pleasing on the eye 52 before he was also LBW (as was Kyle Bradley) but some late swishing from Trivedi enabled the visitors to post a significant total in a short-form match. The home side, despite a bright start slumped to 73-6 & the match, as a contest was over. Callum Wood took 3-33, including Rupert Style who picked out Adam Alger at cover. Kie Farrell also taking two catches. With Chris Redhead bowling accurately and Vish Trivedi continuing his good form going for just 11 runs in his 4 overs and taking 2 wickets. Kyle Bradley was much tidier behind the stumps & In a fitting display Paul Crutwell scored 61 not out in his final match as Ibiza Captain, but it did not stop Nomads restricting Ibiza to 155-8 & winning by 27 runs. The end of an enjoyable tour, plenty of local delicacies sampled, wine and beer drunk and new places visited (including Café Del Mar !). Many thanks to Ibiza CC for their hospitality. We look forward to returning.
