Nomads prevail over depleted La Manga
The match was cancelled then reinstated at an earlier time.Unfortunately we were unable to contact some of our players and then the start was delayed so a shortened match was agreed as some of La Manga had to leave early. In the end we ended up as eleven with assistance form the brothers Fisher who had turned up to watch. La Manga's late comers did not appear. Nomads made a decent total of 173 which total was constrained by the thick rich grass turning fours into twos and singles.Simon Robinson top scored after an uncertain start and then several Nomads chipped in. La Manga openers punished Krunic but then both fell to Robinson and the innings never recovered momentum despite a useful knock from Graham.

Mojacor thrash Nomads who rue dropped catches
Nomads won the toss and batted first.Having greeted all our familiar friends we were then introduced to the five new members from Pakistan.the outfield was very wet with dew and this restricted our opening pair who neverthelss added 64 when Latchamn was trapped lbw to one that kept low. Robinson adjusting to the pitch and the need for the aerial route struck a series of boundaries and with Luke Rogers added 86.Rogers having just hit a huge six got carried away and miscued the next innocuous ball and was caught,150-2. On another day Nomads would have been well placed to post a big total but with a long tail it was vital that Robinson batted through with Krunic after an impaired Smith had gone for 10,175-3. Unfortunately Robinson was out shortly after for a fine century and then we scrambled another thirty due to Krunic's giant strides. Last year after a good start once we were through the top few Mojacor collapsed. With a new top order we were going to have to bowl well.Robinson being tired after his innings we opened with the drifting guile of Norman Dugdale complementing Krunic. Another day this may have worked as both openers made errors against the slow pace and Munib may have been caught and bowled. As it was we let chances go and Munib and Beale soon established a dominant partnership putting on 122 for the first wicket.Blumberg had Beale caught by Norman Dugdale but any thoughts of a further breakthrough were squashed by the accomplished left handed Farat who joined Munib adding 85 runs. The skipper invited Ilija Krunic to bowl a second spell.Spurning his swift right arm seam he bowled an offbreak but then informed the umpire he would bowl left arm.the startled Farat was at once bamboozeled by the flight and guile of this delivery and so our giant fast seamer had finally taken a wicket. Munib completed an unbeaten ton finished with some mighty slogs off Andy Smith who suggested he show more respect and Mojacor had won by 8 wickets with ten overs to spare.

Nomads Slaughtered
George Wambeke claimed he had a poor side apart from Shafique and a couple of other so we had better bat. Nomads strengthened by the arrival of James While opened with yesterday’s centurion Robinson and Rogers and look forward to a big total. So bereft of seam bowling were the opposition that Shafique put in an opening spell of four overs before putting on his pads to keep wicket. In that brief spell he had our openers and Andy Smith for a duck (4-1-10-3), 16-3. Krunic and While restored order but just as James seemed to be en route for a big innings he holed out to Montgomery,62-4. Injured Latchman joined Krunic to add 46 before being trapped lbw,108-5. Krunic expanded his range of shots and proceeded to his highest score for Nomads and his first Fifty for the club. Despite a broken thumb Barter smote a couple of boundaries including a big six and we reached an inadequate total of 166. While and Krunic opened the bowling and had Shafique and veteran Hancock playing and missing. When the edge came it was dropped and prospering from his good luck Shafique was quick to punish anything short or a fraction over pitched. Meanwhile Hancock played a sound second fiddle and between overs counsellor to Safique. And so the stand progressed. There were blemishes, there were many forward defensive shots but these two comfortably reached their target in the 31st over, Shafique having hit 129* out of 168. No wonder he invited us to his new restaurant and we will come in 2009!

Sporting Alfas recover to win comfortably
Nomads CC lost once again to a strong Alfas Saturday 1st XI by 6 wickets and yet with a little more disciplined batting and some luck in the field it may have been much closer. Alfas took to the field and commenced the bowling with Laudon and Pennick. The Nomads openers were Barter and Paul Stansfield, who was making a guest appearance for the visitors. Laudon and Pennick both started economically with the first three overs only resulting in two runs. The steady start changed when Stansfield hit two consecutive fours of Pennick in the fourth over and that seemed to give the former Spanish International the confidence to be more aggressive in his shot selection. Barter was proving a competent ally at the other end despite batting with a broken thumb and Nomads had moved onto 45 without loss before a mini collapse occurred. The introduction of spin in the shape of Wasim and Compton caused the damage and brought quick wickets. Barter was the first to go when he was clean bowled by the left arm spin of Wasim and then While followed four runs later when he was stumped off the same bowler without a run to his name. Leg spinner Compton got into the act by bowling Stansfield around his legs for a fine 33 and when Wasim claimed his third wicket courtesy of a fine slip catch by Pennick at the second attempt the promising visitors start had crumbled from 45 for 0 to 54 for 4.Most unfortunate was James While who was 'stumped by a full toss from Wasim which rebounded off Shafique's leg onto the stumps.James off balance after trying to hit the ball all the way to altea lifted his foot and was out! The middle order for Nomads comprised mainly of Barcelona players who kept trying to hit sixes instead of building an innings but Nisar (28and Armaghan (45) made significant contributions to push the score to to 166 all out.Armaghan may have scored some more if he had kept the strike over the last few overs and not run himself out The Nomads score was assisted by some sloppy fielding by Alfas that included 4 dropped catches off the bowling of the unlucky Spencer.Wasim who first visited Alfas playing for Nomads some four years ago was the main beneficiary with 5-17. Alfas took to their task purposefully and Shafique and Spencer looked comfortable against the Nomads bowling who bowled too short . With the score on 26 Armaghan produced a great ball that saw Spencer caught behind. When While disposed of the other opener Ali with the score on 48 the home sides supporters began to get a little nervy. When Compton followed the very next ball, to a fine slip catch by Stansfield the energy levels of the visitors rose substantially. While was denied an hat trick by Myers but Nomads were back in the game. The new partnership of Pennick and Myers re-established control for Alfas despite some playing and missing and they forged a partnership of 77 before Myers received a yorker from Wasim that uprooted his middle stump. With Pennick in great form and Wasim looking solid at the other end Alfas reached their total of 167 with 14 overs to spare and Pennick remained 65 not out in an innings that included one 6 and nine 4`s. Nomads fought to the end but to no avail as the local side secured a comfortable six wicket victory despite playing the whole game with only ten men. It was unfortunate that Kurran had not opened with while as his four overs caused even Phil Pennick all sorts of trouble.

Mighty ton From While sets up Victory
Nomads innings was dominated by a large ton from James While which was slow to unfurl but devastating in its final chapter lifting Nomads to a total of 258. While was well supported by Azhar who missed out on a well deserved fifty. Alfas's reply was brisk for a period and Shafique Ur Rehman threatened a big innings before being stumped and the loss of the top order for 120 augured ill for the hosts. The last five wickets fell for 30 runs with Mariner and Cowley both run out. Nomads included four from Valencia, young Harry Marshall stood in for the still injured Ranjit Latchman and occassional Nomad Wasim now an Alfas member stood in for the injured Simon Barter.
