Nomads prevail on freezing afternoon

A car load of three arrived late forcing a rearrangement of the batting order(TB please note). The experienced pair Wakers and John Olufawo opened on a slow pitch and Wakers fell early to a miscued pull off a sluggish long hop to square. Olufwo suggested some winter practice as he hit a string of boundaries only to inspect the clouds when on 41 and was cleaned bowled. Nawaz Cader meanwhile had put down the anchor and when he did burst into a dashing shot invariably hit the ball straight to a fielder. Meanwhile Omar Ayaz elevated in the order played some elegant shots before being run out in a farcical incident. Cader had knocked over Barker the bowler as he tried to field the ball and then seemed more interested in the health of Barker than responding to Omar’s call.Omar ran the length of the pitch  exchanged words with Nawaz and the set off back from whence he had come. However Mid on’s throw overtook him and was run out for 31.   Chetan Malhotra joined Carder who was soon out for 20. Vib Yadav came in with the score 103-4 off 26 overs. Vib had some good fortune but hit nine 6s in a swift 79 taking the innings to 223 off 41 overs whereupon Andy Marshall declared. There had been a short stoppage for light rain but luckily this stopped.   After the resumption Nazeing lost both openers earlier to Vaughan Vander Linde. Andy Marshall employed six bowlers, all of whom except Pradeep had some success as wickets fell steadily. Nazeing skipper Mackie hit a fluent fifty compiling small stands with  Cadwill and then Barker but he fell lbw to Omar on 51. Barker took particular delight with Pradeep’s bowling so he and the tail added 57 runs before the returning Shawl and Marshall took the final two wickets.Nazeing were all out 154 off 54.5 overs with 3.1 overs to go leaving Barker on 41 not out. Everyone would have welcomed a Sauna after this game, one metre apart of course!   Nazeing Common CC are building a magnificent new pavilion  so with hopefully warmer weather next year we will make full use of the new facilities and celebrate afterwards.
