Run outs cost Nomads dear in close encounter
This was a close match where the bowling dominated. Nomads began well enough with AW Pegrum scoring 49 but wickets fell steadily as six batsmen mustered a mere 9 runs between them. Gardner was next top scorer with 20 and Prickett and Kendall added a few at the end. The run out of Harland in particular but also AM Pegrum deprived Nomads of precious runs an low scoring match.
In reply Webster removed the openers cheaply but then Borrodale(37) and Legram(30) formed a successful partnership which despite the valiant efforts of Webster with six wickets set the Southgate innings onwards to victory. The Rev Alfred Bashford who had played two games for Middlesex in 1906 not only removed Nomads opening bat LJ Crook but took the Southgate score to 139, some 17 runs beyond Nomads total.
