Nomads batted first and made a mess of things, 68-5. However Whiteway dug in reaching 93 and putting on a last wicket stand of 30 with teenager Mark Harris aged 15. Alas! Whiteway deserved a century.
West Kent were always up with the run rate as they chased but late wickets, good bowling and some decent Nomads fielding held them to 169-9.
At this time there were two independent clubs playing Chislehurst Common, West Kent and Chislehurst. with the advent and growth of League cricket the two clubs merged in 1980. The playing of cricket on the Common in perpetuity is protected by an Act of Parliament in the 1880s.
