Jesus hang on for Draw
On a beautiful afternoon Jono Nomads skipper won the toss and elected to bat. The skipper fell first bowled for 19 whereupon Stewart and Nigel added 78 before Stewart who had become somewhat bogged down was bowled by Sarah Attrill. Debutant Martin Matthews and Nigel batted on merrily until Martin was retired on 53. When Nigel reached a fine ton the innings was closed.
After a splendid Tea Taran Shankar was soon taking wickets and with Jesus skipper Sybil falling to Tom Hollyer the innings was soon tottering on 57-7. However the tail dug deep and resisted firmly yet the ninth wicket fell for 91. Nomads tried several bowlers but could not dislodge the final pair who survived to draw. Geoff Parks had batted for two hours and 96 balls.
The College bar was closed so most Nomads and Long Vacers made it to the nearbye St Radegund Pub where centurion Nigel bought us all a lot of beers.
A great day at a fine setting!
St Radegund Pub have a cricket team which visited the Croatian Island of Vis and wrote a tour book about it which inspired Nomads to go to Vis in 2014.
