Nomads thrashed on dicey pitch
Cricket-The weekly paper records this” Hampstead Nomads had a rather unpleasant experience. Their Secretary had advertised for a match, and he got one! He was told the pitch was good but the outfield ‘a bit rough’. He pictured a ground say like Stanmore of Chesham. The reality was a bit of desirable building land at the side of a road. The wicket was wretchedly bad and the outfield was on a slope with bumps and tufts of grass and the like. Silly point stood on a mound of horse dung! Seven of the Nomads had scored centuries this season yet in this game Nomads totals were 26 & 42. FC Boully doubly distinguished himself knocking out three front teeth of an opposition batsman and his 17 was the top individual score of the match. GO Smith was down to play this match for Nomads but never turned up. Presumably he had taken the precaution of having a look at the ground first!
Not the best way to end the season. Judging by the scores the local side must have been used to the imperfect facilities and a salutary lesson for the Hon Sec Sidney.!
It is suggested that East Barnet CC became East Barnet Valley CC and survived until 1990. .
