Kunal and Arnav win the match
There are three Dhruvs in the Nomads whatsapp Community, Tahil, Peshkar and Thakker. The name Dhruv (derived from the Sanskrit word Dhruva) translates to “pole star,” “immovable,” “fixed,” or “constant” in English. It represents something steady, unshakeable, and permanent. Well whether steady or permanent the Nomads team on our first visit to Enfield CC were minus a Dhruv. Vamsi solved the problem with a Mohammed from Finchley CC. Praise be!
Enfield batted first and made a steady start but Yasin, Vishal and Ben(2) accounted for the top four,4-128 off 30 overs. Thereafter four more wickets fell for a further fifty runs,8-178 with Vamsi, Mohammed, Ben and Vishal taking one each. The stalwart of Enfield’s innings was Kian Linnane undefeated on 67. Enfield finished on 193 after forty overs never quite breaking loose from the shackles of Nomads bowling despite some dropped catches. Ben Butcher took three wickets and passed 300 for Nomads CC.
After a superb Tea Nomads replied with Vic and debutant Kunal, these two attacked the Enfield bowling to good effect scoring 61 off the first ten overs. Vic was caught behind for 28 with the the score on 89. Arnav joined Kunal and maintained the momentum until Kunal mishit a full toss hard but straight to mid off. Next ball Josh Thomas repeated the same shot and dismissal! Veteran Nigel Bloch joined Arnav and they scored the remaining 33 runs though Nigel’s two fours were distinctly streaky. Arnav finished on a well grafted 62 not out. Top scorer despite a cracked bat was debutant Kunal Checker with 68 including 9 fours and a six, an admirable start.
With so much Tea provided several Nomads and Enfield players remained post match eating well to complement the drinks.
Many thanks to Enfield President Mike Morgan for inviting us and laying on a very good day’s cricket.
