Huzefa Century insures Nomads set a target too far
This was Nomads first visit postponed from June 7th when they had to play a Match in the National Village Competition at home. This afternoon Chobham 1st XI were playing East Molesey in the Subba Row Cup but at East Molesey. So neither side knew what to expect. Nomads arrived early to find the grand Pavilion closed so some repaired to the nearby pub . A variety of start times appeared published on both club’s websites and Play-Cricket.! Chobham wanted a 40/40 match. As we had few bowlers and had lost a back up bowler in Tom Marriage 10 overs max per bowler was agreed.
Victor won the toss and chose to bat and opened with Pete Deane. Vic smacked two boundaries in the first over and he and partner Pete scored freely off the two young quicks with regular boundaries and many quick singles. Vic was bowled playing a most flamboyant and uncharacteristic shot for 52,1-78. Huzefa Sajawal joined Pete and these two added 50 in six overs whereupon Pete nicked to the keeper,2-138. Kieran was astonishingly caught and bowled by Neil Perks for one run.. Dhruv Tahil joined Huzefa and these two added 110 before Dhruv retired on 20 having survived some dropped chances. Rupert Style, all the way from Ibiza , was caught and bowled by young Tom Parrot for a duck,5-270. All the while at the other end Huzefa was savaging the Chobham bowling eventually caught on the boundary by Perks for 147 off 71 balls including 9 sixes! Alex Hall hit a six and Fayaz a four before the innings closed at 40 overs on 300-6/7.
After a good Tea the Chobham innings was soon in the woes losing the openers for 12 and then 4-51. Unfortunately Hamza’s shoulder ‘went’ after three overs. Only Akhil Kapoor scored freely before being caught by Huzefa for 58.There was a late flourish from Tom Parrott and Albie Swindells but they fell to Fayaz Ahmed and then he accounted for 9 and 11 to wrap up the innings (178) with a fourfer. Nomads catching had been astounding, removing seven .
The skipper had been worried about his slim bowling resources and just ten fielders but the catching conquered Chobham, Deane 2,Finnegan 2 and 1 each for Huzefa, Vic and Vamsi. Also unknown to the skipper were Pete Deane’s flighted lobs 2-51 off 8 overs.
A good number of players of both sides enjoyed a post match drink or two before departing. The Chobham bar boasted two Real Ales indicating the frequency of through put of players and supporters at this lively club with a grand pavilion.
