Nomads bowler rout Hurlingham

John Nagenda and Colin McGregor switched sides and played for Hurlingham. In fact five of the Hurlingham eleven were current or past members of Nomads. Given the popularity of this fixture amongst Nomads members at the time this was helpful.

On a seam friendly pitch Nomads batted first and faced the pace of Nagenda and McGregor , both keen as mustard to add a scalpful of Nomads wickets to their season's haul. In the event Nomads blunted their fury reaching lunch for the loss of 1 wicket. Nomads score had reached 140 for 1 when McGregor bowled Blumberg. Fermont and Blumberg had added 100 valuable runs. Lunch had obviously fortified Hurlingham or debilitated Nomads as apart from a run out Nagenda and McGregor were to remove seven more Nomads for a mere 47 runs. David Fermont fell short of a well deserved century at 3.15m for 90. An excellent knock from the Nomads skipper.

The innings closed at 3.48 with 189 on  the board. Had the skillful and obdurate Golooba not been late and batted up the order the Nomads innings may have stabilised. Nagenda finished with 6-77 off 25 overs, a typical herculean effort and McGregor 3-69 off 17 overs. This was a strong batting side and Nomads would have been disappointed not to have posted a larger total.

In reply Hurlingham succumbed to some outstanding bowling from Bill Wilkinson and Rob Symondson being all out for 62 at 6.04pm off 29 overs. Simon Beecroft battled it out for an hour as did Towner. Bill Wilkinson finished with 6-11 off 14.4 overs, remarkable figures while Robin Symondson took 3-16 off 6 overs.

This resounding victory was celebrated at some length. For the next three seasons Nagenda switched his allegiance back to Nomads!
