It was normal practice then to play until the 2nd innings had ended or time was up irrespective of whether the game was already won.
Miserable Nomads Batting no match for Beaumont Schoolboys
This was very much a Nomads 2nd XI against the College 1st XI and they proved no match for the schoolboys. Beaumont College at that time played the Oratory School in a one day match at Lord’s with the same eleven who thrashed Nomads. They lost by 15runs despite young Le Marchand taking a fourfer and scoring 56.
Two days earlier despite taking a stronger eleven to Eton the College 2nd XI thrashed Nomads as well! Defeat from two elite schools one C of E, the other Roman Catholic!
The fixture was not renewed in 1927.
Beaumont College was a public school run by the Jesuits 1861-1967.
