Rain the winner after Hermits declare
The weather Gods have been unkind to Hermits and Nomads alike as last year’s match was cancelled. This year there was a slight improvement but the clouds were heavy and threatening as skippers Tom Wigglesworth and Sajjad Shawl walked out to middle to toss. Sajjad called incorrectly and so Tom elected to bat.
Hermits were soon in trouble at 29-4 as Shawl and Tom Marshall removed the top four. The middle order rallied though treating Pagie with great respect despite the non catching/fielding mode of Neil Kanabar.
Lunch was taken at 97-5 off 26 overs and a very good lunch it was.
Play resumed with spitting ran and periods of drizzle as the 6th wicket added 68 in all before the returning Marshall bowled Osman for a useful 43. Lane soon followed bowled Malik for a useful 44 whereupon Karthik struck a merry cameo before the skipper declared at 182-7 off 46 overs.
By now the drizzle was heavier and the covers went on. Tea was taken early and then the match was abandoned. This was most frustrating after the glorious sunshine the day before and the reality that elsewhere and nearby it was dry!
