Match 19 NOMADS CC v OVAL DREAM BOYS CC at Highgate CC Shepherd’s Cot Park Road London N8 8JJ 2.00pm – 20 overs from 6.00pm
Dream Boys thrash Nomads
ODB is a new club founded by Australian Broadcaster Adam Collins which has embraced the English tradition of Wandering Cricket. Already they have a formidable fixture list and regularly put out two sides on Sunday. Presumably because they were an unknown quantity almost none of our better young members applied for this game and by the time MM and committee members chased everyone up they were not available. Highgate CC helped us and through the herculean effort of Andy Penn we raised an eleven somewhat stronger on paper with bowling than batting.
The start of the match was delayed due the reluctance of those involved and supporting a junior morning match.
Victor duly won the toss and was persuaded by Adam to bat. Apparently local intelligence had informed him of our powerful opening batters Narzm and Abdul who had played for us on Thursday at Highgate CC. Unfortunately neither was with us on Sunday.
Victor opened with Jono but was bowled early on. Jono and Atti added 32 with some fine shots but fell to catches at 32 and 36. Kit Penny played some good shots but at the other end Alfie and Andy fell lbw to the chubby Arnott who was having a good spell of bowling. Kit fell at 66 with the top score of the innings 20. Tom, James and Hassan were quickly dismissed. Indeed five middle order batsmen contributed just 5 runs. Max Latchmore batted with confidence hitting 3 x4s and a six and briefly there was the hope that he and Joe Ireland may mount a significant last wicket stand. Such vain hopes were shattered as Joe attempted a second run only to be run out with an excocet throw from third man. Nomads were all out 94.Sheahan Arnott took 5-23 his best figures so far for OBD
Lunch was taken and then ODB batted losing opener Rohan Odreda for a duck, caught and bowled Kit Penny. Abby Gonella and Chris Hoggard added 66 before both falling, Hoggard to Joe Ireland and Gonella to Hassan Khokhar. ODB’s next batsmen Collett and MacCorquodale saw them home to victory. ODB had reached the target in 12 overs.
Tea was now taken together with several jugs of beer and a period of good convivial interchange took place. Then ODB players left to support their second team Gold who were playing Lewisham Strikers at Cockfosters and chasing 250 to win. They failed miserably so the South London mobsters won by 129 runs.
