Substantial win for Nomads
Under the eagle eye of Umpire Chris Page Nomads strode to an impressive win over a weak Sunbury eleven. The 1st XI were playing Teddington in a National Cup match.
Nomads won the Toss and elected to bat. Thierry and Arnav put on 99 runs before the latter carelessly tickled the ball to leg and the keeper swooped. Debutant Ali miscued to deep long on. Akki and Thierry continued at pace before Thierry a chased wide one and was also caught behind for a fine 85, 1-168. Arnab and Akki continued merrily along until Arnab charged, missed and was stumped. Tom Marriage smote a four and the innings was declared at 252-4 off 36 overs.
After a splendid almost gargantuan TEA Skipper Sam opened the bowling with Joe Ireland and both suffered some mighty blows from the Sunbury openers before both fell one to an overhead slip catch taken by Victor and the other caught Ali off Joe. Wickets then fell steadily five falling for 17 runs, 7-83. Ali took two caught and bowled with Louis, Arvind and Arnab Chowhury taken 2 each. There was a bit of late resistance form Ethan Hope until he was bowled by Arnab and Joe Ireland took the tenth via a stumping by Dhruv Tahil.
A good number of Nomads lingered over several beers post match joined by Chris Page and Sunbury skipper Samson Turner-Stewart so much so that Arvind finished his post match exercises and joined us too.,p>
This was Nomads first visit to Sunbury and it was a very enjoyable day under the leadership of Sam Owen who was making his debut as Match Manager. Thanks also to Nirav Jariwala who secured the two young cricketers from the Calcutta Cricket Academy who are on tour in UK.
