Close finish but Nomads prevail
A new fixture for Nomads and there was a misunderstanding about the start time so most Nomads arrived on a fine Autumn day to find no opposition and the clubhouse closed. However that changed once some locals arrived and soon there was a huge boundary rope in place, the clubhouse open and the pitch marked out and stumps in place.
Match Manager and Skipper Pat Patel won the toss and elected to bat.Nomads batting struggled somewhat yet Hassan Shahab struck a solid fifty and with cameos from Vikash, Simon and young Max we posted 192 all out, one over short of the 35 allocated.
Following a rather good Tea Vamsi removed their young opener but there followed two decent stands taking the Orsett innings to 3-73. The middle order added little as Yuvri Verma took his score to 45 whereupon Louis had him caught, 7-122. However led by Finley Barton the Orsett innings closed in on their target helped by a six from Dav Muduru. Shahab bowled the dangerous Muduru and 18 runs later Simon Rowell accounted for Barton(36) with the score 180 some 12 runs short. Orsett skipper Jamie Fain needed to hit a six and four but only managed a two and a single so Nomads won by 9 runs. A close finish indeed !.
Hassan Shahab had a good day 55, three wickets and a vital.catch and naturally MM Pat Patel had managed the match with customary skill!
