Skipper saves the day

A swashbuckling innings by club skipper Mike Wilkins including five 6s saved the day when all seemed lost as Nomads had crumbled to 62-7. Ably supported by Paul Maloney this pair put on 87 for the 8th wicket before Wilkins was caught off Heagren. By then the game was saved and Nomads secured a draw. Heagren finished with 5-81.

Earlier local run machine the cigar smoking legend Dennis Luff survived stern tests from Wilkins and Nagenda to finish on 137 not out forming useful partnerships with Smith and Sutcliffe. Longparish generously declared at 207-4 off 40 overs thus giving Nomads 49 overs in return. Nomads did not start well and after 10 overs were two down for 9. Blumberg's demise at 47-4 precipitated a collapse, three more wickets for just 15 runs, 62-7. Yet the skipper rose to the challenge.
