Nomads bowlers seize win Tom Marshall had assembled a strong Nomads team for this match as we had suffered serious defeat in recent engagements. Having won the toss he elected to bat and so confident was he in his batting line up he chose number ten spot for himself. However he was to be disappointed as apart from fifty from Elech and a cameo 37 from Yadav the batting underwhelmed. As a result skipper Tom had to rescue the innings with 44 not out contributing to two last wicket stands producing 56 runs thus reaching a respectable if modest total of 199 off 43 overs
Both teams then tucked into an excellent tea served by Old Wimbledonian resident caterer which was most welcome in this ECB Covid restriction season. Now in four previous encounters Schoolmaster Philips has scored 396 runs for twice out so when he was caught first ball by Elech off Hamilton for a golden duck Nomads spirits rose exponentially. In a good opening spell Hamilton removed the top three leaving Ramblers 35-3.
Adhikari and Randall added 38 before Trevedi dismissed both,75-4. Thereafter wickets fell steadily to Ogden, Consett and a first ball run out. The usually genial Chabisa hung around for 26 balls but all out of sorts and the innings closed on 105 in the 27th over. The skipper had not bowled a ball!
Both teams lingered on a fine evening at this most congenial of clubs which seems to attract a lot of regular imbibers from the local neighbourhood. A most agreeable venue.
