Nomads draw on historic Cricket day

Nomads finished just 9 runs short of victory with Don Mann(33) and Nick Johnston(3). We seemed to be coasting to victory thanks to a solid innings from Mike Hodd and a substantial stand between Michael Blumberg and Don Mann. Yet with the fall of Blumberg two more wickets wickets fell cheaply when we needed a few quick runs and so a draw was the result.

Earlier Lewes declared on 167-8 off 35.5 overs thanks to two batsmen Hartridge and Daly while the rest failed to make double figures. The late introduction of Surve saw the removal of Daly and Gower for a duck so Atul finished with 2-5 off 5 balls!

This day  will always be remembered for one of the most devastating spells of fast bowling in the history of cricket. While Nomads were driving to Lewes a fired up  Bob Willis was already destroying Australia. After the lunch interval he completed the task 8-43 and our game started late for there was Television in the clubhouse.

The match against Lewes Priory was not on our fixture list so presumably we received a late invitation and we have not played them since. Colin McGregor claimed the Hon Sec had oversold the fixture.
