Two Tons & Two Fourfers secure Nomads victory
Vic Kandampully had assembled a strong Nomads batting line up to play this rearranged match with Chesham previously played on Sundays. Chesham’s side was distinctly youthful but included a couple with 1st XI and 2nd XI experience.
Vic won the toss and elected to bat but was soon surprised by the bounce and was caught and bowled by the brothers Monteiro. However that was to be the sole success of Chesham’s young bowlers as Hamad Arshad and Arnav Kulkarni scored chanceless tons and Oli Thornley followed with a swift fifty. Nomads declared on 290-1 off 42 overs.
Following the Tea interval Chesham’s innings began and indeed followed in complete contrast to Nomads. First there was a dolly dropped catch followed by a flurry of wickets. James removed three then Matt Clifford with four and Ben Butcher two accounted for the rest. There was some resistance in the middle order as three batters reached the twenties together with some boundary shots as the bowling figures of Rob Jones and Sree Kanakala reveal. Doubtless there was some friction later in the Clifford household as Matt Clifford bowled out his younger brother Alfie for 29, Chesham’s top scorer. Chesham were all out for 122 in 36.5 overs .
Yet despite a couple of drops the Nomads catching was the outstanding feature of the innings. Hamad Arshad took four catches to become the first fielder this season to the make the Honours Board and skipper Vic ran and dived to take a brilliant one handed catch at full stretch. However no “Howzat” came from Vic, more a screeching “Ouch” as he had hurt a knee in the effort.
We were pleased to have Duncan Ellis, Chris Royals and Theo Wetherall in support of both sides? With two centurions there was a significant volume of Lager and Ale to consume post match to the music of the Zumba dance class .
An enjoyable day’s cricket.
