Nomads overwhelm Templars
On a very warm day Ben won the toss and elected to bat. Vic and Oliver opened the batting and made a good start before Vic was bowled on 44. Oliver playing a more restrained innings fell with the score a healthy 108. Aayash Baluja joined Avi Patel and these two plundered the Templars bowling making centuries before being retired with the total beyond 300. Arnav and Rahul played a few balls before the inning was closed at 321-2 off 45 overs.
In reply Templars made a bright start taking a particular liking to the occasional bowling of cider man Mark Richards. At 53 opener Holmes was caught behind off James Hamilton whereupon the Templar innings folded to James and Abdi Zulfiqar, six wickets for a mere 30 runs. The one stalwart of the Templar innings was Tom Wilson who fell for 86 out of 105 caught by Vic off Abdi. Templars skipper Rupert Rowling made a late spirited afray, 22 off 24 balls before being caught behind off Ben Butcher. Ben wrapped up the innings having Ernie McDade caught by James. Templars were all 137 off 23 overs leaving Nomads victors by 184 runs, the biggest win by Nomads over Templars since 2006 when the victory was by 209 runs against a depleted Templars side.
After the game most Nomads and Templars gathered at the re-opened Queen’s Head Pub in Chackmore for a good few beers. Curiously our debutant Aayash Baluja turned out to be a potential Templar which news added to Rupert’s great smile.
A grand days cricket with a spectacular setting and superb catering. So thank you Templars and Stowe School.
