Nomads batting underwhelms

On glorious warm day with a good number of spectators around the ground Kew won the Toss and elected to bat and a mess most of them made of it.

A curious match! Nomads looked to be control with Kew succumbing to 77-7 then two partnerships first between skipper Brazier and number 9 Shaveen Hassim and then Hassim and Kulkarni took the home side to a respectable 214, some transformation! Trivedi and Bonneywell each took three wickets and skipper Pawan Malik two. Sajjad who bowled an excellent opening spell was most unlucky to end wicketless as he beat the bat regularly in his opening spell. We had fielded with ten which no doubt helped Kew’s total.

After a good Tea Nomad opened with two veterans Nigel Bloch and Sanjay Beri who smote a flurry of fours before being dismissed and although Tom Marriage stuck around for a fair time compiling 24 the rest came and went including a huge six from Sajjad. At 7 down we were 99, ahead of Kew at the same point, but our 8th wicket fell quickly Vishal playing a wild shot which required a good catch. The 9th and final wicket now put on 54 runs with Preetinder finishing on 47 not out and Rob Bonneywell last out bowled for 9. A few more 24s in the middle and the game could have been close.

Having suffered defeat the players declined to spend Vamsi’s gift, his penance for failing to turn up just because he was in some North London Hospital A & E. However we hope he has a speedy recovery.
